About Creature Lab
Creature Lab is a science game where children invent their own animal. They pick its body (round, tiny, huge, long, sleek or light), its skin (fur, scales, feathers, blubber, a shell or spines), how it moves, its mouth and up to two special tricks, like camouflage, gills or a camel hump, then choose a colour and a silly name. A fluffy shark with owl eyes and webbed feet? Why not!
Then two cards are turned over: a habitat, such as the Arctic, the desert, the rainforest, the deep ocean, a city park or the savanna, and an event, like a drought, a flood, a wildfire or a hungry predator. The game shows which traits helped, which made things worse and why, from thick fur in the cold to big ears that let out heat. Every round ends with a real animal that solved the same problems, like the polar bear, the camel or the anglerfish. Didn't make it? Redesign the creature and face the same cards again.

Levels and difficulty
There are 36 traits, 6 habitats and 10 events, so every round is different. Each habitat and event brings problems to solve, like freezing cold, finding food or nowhere to hide. Solve them all for 3 stars, and try to get 3 stars in every habitat. You can pick a habitat on the start screen to know what you're facing, or let the cards surprise you. There's no timer, and a creature that doesn't make it just goes back to the lab.
Tips for parents and teachers
- Ask before releasing: "Where do you think it would do well?" Then see if they were right.
- After a tough round, read the problems together and pick one trait to change.
- Look up the real animal reveal together and find pictures of it.
- Younger children can design and talk it through while a grown-up reads the results.
Creature Lab questions
What do children learn from Creature Lab?
How animals are adapted to where they live: why fur, fat, humps, flippers and camouflage help in some places and not in others, what different mouths eat, and how to test an idea and improve it.
Does my child need to read?
Pictures, icons and the creature's reactions show every trait and result. Children who can't read yet enjoy it most with a grown-up reading the reasons.

No. It plays right in the web browser on phones, tablets and computers. You can also add it to your home screen like an app.
